Jesus made disciples through intentional relationship, teaching, example, practice, correction, mission, and increasing responsibility. He ministered to crowds, but He invested deeply in a smaller group who lived close enough to observe how He prayed, served, responded to opposition, taught Scripture, and loved people.
Jesus Chose People Intentionally
Mark 3 says He called those He wanted and appointed twelve to be with Him.
Presence Came Before Assignment
The disciples were first “with Him.” Relationship gave them access to His life, not only His sermons.
Jesus Taught Truth Clearly
He explained the kingdom of God, corrected misunderstandings, interpreted Scripture, and answered questions.
Jesus Modeled What He Taught
The disciples saw Him pray, serve, forgive, confront hypocrisy, welcome outsiders, and endure suffering.
Jesus Gave Them Practice
He sent disciples out to preach, heal, serve, and proclaim the kingdom before they understood everything perfectly.
Jesus Debriefed Their Experiences
They returned and discussed what happened. Practice became a place for further formation.
Jesus Corrected Them
He confronted pride, unbelief, fear, rivalry, and misunderstanding rather than ignoring them.
Jesus Increased Responsibility
Their mission expanded as they matured, culminating in the Great Commission.
Jesus Formed People Who Would Continue the Mission
His model combined teaching with life-on-life formation so disciples could eventually carry the gospel outward and make disciples themselves.
